Front wheel alignment.

Does anyone else have front wheel alignment problems on full lock turns? The car is fine in a straight line and small to medium turns, but if you put full lock on you can feel the front tires fighting against each other through the steering wheel and hear them breaking traction. I've just had the front wheel alignment done, and the wheels are properly secured. The alignment helped a bit... but its definitely still there. I cant feel any play in the bushings either. Its also just passed its MOT with no outstanding advisories to do with suspension or steering. The only thing I can really think to blame is the bushings. Anyone have any other ideas?

i Chris, I have had the same problems on my 740. What can happen is that the front wheels can be correct relative to each other but have been adjusted more on one side that the other, this would cause one wheel to be able to create a tighter turning circle, hence all the scrubbing, probably more noticeable on loose gravel. I had a garage carry out 4-wheel alignment on mine, and the difference was unbelievable, it handled like a totally different car. Steve.

X2 what he said, have had the same problems, turn the wheel from lock to lock when jacked up and try and get the centre pos, then take the steering wheel off and put it on straight, then go get an alignment done, cured my porblems on the 940

I've noticed similar symptoms on my 1996 960, but the front tyre wear is good and even and as I very rarely seem to need to use full lock it isn't really a problem to me. Stan.

I have had the same problem in the past - check all bushes (including the anti roll bar horseshoe bushes) although you cannot feel movement when you push and pull the wheels off the ground, the amount of weight/force that is generated when car is on full lock and power is driven through the wheels is enough to move all but the very new/solid bushings and ball joints. Nothing really to worry about until obvious bushing problems (uneven tyre wear or knocks/creaks as you drive along). Hope this helps... John
